Had delicious dishes for the new year's holiday!
Scarlet runner beans - or Phaseolus coccineus. A white version also exists. Very large seeds compared to common bean - 170g/100 seeds!
A pretty pattern
The pattern and the color are retained well after cooking. I cooked 100 g of beans with 60 g of sugar. And it was rated as 'slightly sweet for Japanese beans.' I really should promote more savory recipes of beans.
Clockwise from top left: shredded radish, burdock, shiitake mushroom, yam (?), and kelp cooked in fish broth and soy sauce. The typical vegetable dishes of our family.
Clockwise from top: salmon salad, sliced fish meat, fish roe, duck, etc. and crab meat!!
Right: zouni soup with leafy greens, rice cake (invisible), and decorated sliced fish meat.
Something interesting and western - chicken cooked in wine with tangerine. Used re-purposed hot wine, but surprisingly delicious!
Coconut curry with grilled shrimps at Kona Coffee, a Hawaiian restaurant. It was scrumptious, especially after eating Japanese food every day for a week or so.
