A conversation with a friend made me think about different approaches and attitudes towards work.
A person who had worked in a foreign country for a long time told me that he thought that he would not make it to the top if he stayed in that country because he would be at a disadvantage just because he is a foreigner and there is a language barrier as well.
I realized that I did not have much desire to make it to the top. I am not interested in becoming the head of an organization, or rising in the ranks, or having many subordinates. I don't think much about those kind of things, or at all. I would rather work as an individual with a high degree of freedom, doing what I want to do, when I want to do it, as much as I want to do it, and with people whom I like. That is my ideal job. As long as it makes sense, it is not hard at all for me to follow instructions. There are so many different types of people, indeed.
He must have leadership skills and ambition. Of course, if you have a dream you want to fulfill or a social problem you want to improve and you want to do everything you can to make it happen, you will have a better chance of making it happen by building an organization and leading it yourself. I heard that there is a book titled "The world is made up of people who have dreams and people who help them make their dreams come true", and this is exactly what the title of the book indicates!
