Rozanji, Nashinoki Shrine, Seijokain

I toured around shrined and temples near Kyoto Imperial Palace the other day.

The bellflowers were just in bloom at Rozan-ji Temple.  The temple is said to be associated with Murasaki Shikibu.  It was already closed, but there was still a place where she wrote "The Tale of Genji". I  think there was such a place in Shiga too, but I wonder if she wrote it in various places...

Photos are only allowed in the garden. Inside the building was exhibitions about The Take of Genji and the Imperial Family.

Nashiki-jinja Shrine where the Hagi (bush clover?) Festival was being held!  I never saw Hagi flowers before..  Tanka and haiku poems were hung on the bushes throughout the shrine, which is very elegant.

There was a traditional musical instruments performance, too.

Seijokain Temple is where the Aizu governer Matsudaira Katamori stayed during his visit to Kyoto.  The maple leaves must be beautiful when colored.
