In my lab, there are usually two taps of gas on a lab table. One of them is connected to a gas burner, and the other is uncovered.
I was going to ignite the burner, but I opened the bare tap which was not linked to the burner. I heard the hissing sound but I did not know why. I lit the lighter, and a large flame came straight to me! I screamed and leaped quickly back not knowing what to do.
Fortunately, one of my seniors turned off the main tap so the 30 cm flame disappered soon. I had little burn, but that was all.
You cannot be too careful when dealing with fire.
