Visited a retro café called François for the first time!
It’s one of those hidden gems… with an interior that feels like it embodies the essence of Taisho Roman. The staff wear outfits reminiscent of elegant maids.
There’s even a fireplace that seems like it was actually used back in the day. According to the history on their website, the café was established before the war, during a time of strict censorship in Japan, and it served as a place where intellectuals could freely discuss philosophy and art. I had no idea it was such a place…! They even had a gramophone, which was rare at the time, and had a selection of classical music. In an era without orchestras or personal music players, people could come to François and enjoy their favorite music as much as they liked. It’s a wonderful place, and I'm glad such a cafe is still up and running. Knowing that history really gives it a completely different impression.
