Scorching hot summer calls for indoor activities...
I went to the "Impressionist of Light" This is in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Koichi Okumura. He was born in the Meiji era, and it's hard to believe it's been that long since then.
Many of his works feature snowy landscapes and mountain scenes, as he was also a mountaineer. I wasn't particularly interested in Japanese painting before, but his works were beautiful! The shimmering waves of the sea, the morning sun on the mountains, and the softly glowing terraced rice fields were all stunning, with the light featured... I was deeply moved by how profound and realistic landscape painting in Japanese art can be. I had always thought that Japanese paintings were mostly kind of flat.
They also displayed his sketchbooks and preliminary drawings. As expected, even at the rough sketching stage, his works were incredible. The realistic plants, the composition, and the balance when scattering small objects (like flocks of birds in flight, fallen leaves, and tree branches)... It was all amazing.
It was my first time visiting the Kyocera Museum of Art, and it was such a beautiful building—absolutely worth checking out!
