I went to the Cup Noodles Museum in Ikeda, which I had been interested in for a while!

Ikeda is a hidden gem with so much to see, including the Itsuo Art Museum and the Kobayashi Issa Memorial Museum, that you can’t see everything in just one day.

Momofuku Ando, born in 1910, developed Cup Noodles during the post-war food shortage so that people could have something to eat anytime.  Even though he studied business management at Ritsumeikan University and wasn’t a food science expert, he came up with many clever ideas and invented a groundbreaking method for mass-producing Cup Noodles at the time. Instead of putting the noodles into the cup, he placed the cup over the noodles, allowing them to float inside. This method prevented both the cup from being crushed and the noodles from breaking. He also came up with the idea of sealing the cup with an aluminum lid and protecting cups with shrink film. The "reverse thinking", or thinking outside the box really paid off!

The display of Cup Noodles throughout the years was truly impressive.

There was also an attraction where you could choose ingredients and create your own original Cup Noodles, which was really popular with kids.

Momofuku Ando’s achievements have been recognized around the world, and he has received many awards. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate by Ritsumeikan University, and his doctoral gown with three horizontal stripes was on display. Ohh, looks familiar.

Considering it’s free to enter, the museum was quite good. It was fun!
