圓徳院 Entoku-in Temple

Nene, Hideyoshi's wife moved here after Hideyoshi died.  The garden at Fushimi-cascle (Hideyoshi's fortress, destroyed by Tokugawa) was moved to this temple so that she could remember her days with her husband.

The inside is quiet, peaceful, with a place to sit down and hand-copy mantra.

The garden looks serene and beautiful.  It's a bit of a surprise to me that she wanted to move the garden to this temple after her husband died because they used to view the garden every day together, it's full of memory with her husband,  so I would imagine it would be heartbreaking to view it by herself, knowing that they will never see it together again.

"Maybe because women are stronger than men..?" says a male friend of mine, somewhat perplexed, who also seemed OK with viewing the garden in her shoes.  Thinking about what to say, still.  I believe men and women and anyone in between has the same range of emotions, whether they show it or not.  It might have helped that it was quite common for women at her time to lose their husbands in war and be widowed for the rest of their lives.  But still...  I guess we all feel and perceive things differently.  It was an interesting conversation to have on a peaceful, cool evening.
